I’ve lived now in Montana for nearly four years, with the vast majority of my wanderings happening around Bozeman and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Already familiar territory (having spent a few years within its southern borders), it’s been easy to sate my appetite for new terrain by sticking to trails close to home. To check the adventure box as often as I can with family and career hasn’t been that tough here, but I’ve realized I’ve only experienced a small part of what this state has to offer. To some degree though, I know what I’m missing. I see photos of that corner of the state nearly every day at work, but I’d never committed to exploring it. So when the opportunity to spend some time Up North came along—dragons or not—I was going.
The following is a visual narrative of our three days spent in northwestern Montana.
